If you are reading this you most probably felt called into question by the title of my message.
You can see how working only to pay the bills relates to you, can’t you?
Most people wake up each morning because they have to go to work. And the reason they go to work is that they want to get paid. They want to pay their bills and expenses.
In other words, they are working for money. This is why, when they have a choice; they choose to run away from their work.
Money is a means to an end. Most people thought that all they want is money, but money is not the end product that they want.
In fact, what we truly want are experiences that lead us to emotions.
You want to drive a bigger and better car because you want to feel good and prestige. You want to look good, and you want to feel a sense of accomplishment.
So what you want is not the money. You only need the money to buy the car that you desire.
Therefore, if you chase money blindly, you may end up rich, but you may not feel fulfilled deep within.
Please don’t get me wrong.
I love money.
(I am a former private banker. How could I hate money? 🙂 )
I really do, and I would never love what I am doing if it wasn’t going to bring me money.
Money is an essential part of our motivation for work.
I don’t believe in minimizing the importance of money when working on your career.
I also love to talk about money, I always talk about money with my clients.
Because money IS a hugely important aspect of our work, our careers. (more on that in another message, not today!)
But money is NOT all we need to work for.
There’s much more to our careers than paying the bills.
I want to invite you to reflect on what it is for you that drives you to go to work every day?
Once you know that the paycheck arrives steadily and in good consistency, what is it that you want to experience from your career next?
And more to this, what is it that you want to experience from next year on?
What are you going to decide will change in 2023?
Actually, if you got to this point of my message, you are motivated by more than just money.
You most probably are completely aware that next year we will be starting a fresh decade: 2023.
Twenty years have gone by since the most proficient computer experts thought we were going to experience a worldwide computer systems crash at 00:00 on January 1st, 2000.
You might not have noticed how quickly time goes by, but I want to invite you to reflect on how you want to spend the next 10 years of your life, especially in your career.
In less than two weeks we will be starting a new decade…( actually, we are closing the second decade, but never mind-all, the media and social media talks about the new decade)
You probably already know that:
Do you long for more fulfillment?
Do you long for more recognition for your individual performance and a paycheck tied to your performance?
Do you want to be supported in your career growth and encouraged to utilise your strengths?
Do you want to perceive you are making an impact through the work you do?
And finally…Do you also want to make more money next year? (I told you IT IS very important!)
If any of your answers to the above questions is a full-hearted “Yes!” I am herewith happy to invite you to attend my latest workshop starting in January:
